Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with results this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
