First-choice Lineup

Dan Burn A nuisance at set pieces, as always, but may be another option for Stones in the backline as opposed to his partner. One wayward ball later in the match almost led to the first goal from Albania. 6

Nico O’Reilly A further composed showing from the rising star after his debut against Serbia. Saka failed to make the most of a gorgeous backheel over the opposing backline. The role looks secure already. 7/10

Adam Wharton His maiden beginning for his country. Slightly sloppy on the ball but his dangerous corners were a threat. A handy tempo-setter available to the manager to utilize against defensive opponents. Booked for a rash foul. Six

Declan Rice Deliveries from corners and free kicks created chances. Had license to move down the left flank yet found himself in an offside position when the ball arrived with a chance to score. Awarded a well-earned break on the hour mark. 6

Jude Bellingham Played in a high spot down the right and also contributed with dirty work. Displayed moments of class but dragged an attempt high. Replaced towards the end by a teammate, his rival, following a yellow card. 7/10

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s best chance in the opening period, his shot well saved from the opposing goalkeeper. With a teammate hanging back, it fell to him to stretch the play out wide but his crosses from wide areas were hit and miss. Replaced with 15 to go. 6/10

The captain The difference-maker netting two more strikes at international level. The opener a classic opportunist's goal while the second an excellent headed goal having drifted away from his marker. Now 32, he’s only getting better with the national team stand a real opportunity in the upcoming tournament with him up top. 8/10

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to influence play out wide. Was presented with a decent opportunity after being played in by Bellingham but Strakosha kept it out. Rashford made much more of an impact after coming on. 5
