Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side just seven months following starting insulting taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy spell at Elland Road concluded through agreement this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting abusive chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull his beloved club out of the bottom places.
Previous History Involving Bamford and the Manager
Both men had a past prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything appears has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
