Per figures provided by Israel, no fewer than 98 Palestinians have perished while detained beginning in October 2023. A rights monitoring body based in Israel has indicated that the true figure is almost certainly substantially greater, due to many of disappeared people originating in Gaza.

“During the time these policies continue to be enforced, all Palestinian detainees in custody is at peril, even the healthy ones, even the juveniles who have no medical issues.”

Notable Incidents

Several casualties in confinement have been publicly known, such as a 50-year-old hospital director who perished in confinement after a third of a year in custody.

A detainee incarcerated with the individual reported that he was brought to the courtyard by correctional officers immediately preceding his demise, clearly wounded and exposed from the waist down. His corpse has not been returned to Gaza.

Additional detainees who lost their lives in Israeli custody are unidentified. The prison service and defense forces gave researchers with the total of deaths in detention, and limited further data for example the facility where they lost their lives, but without the prisoners’ names.

Documentation Problems
