Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
