The actor Pat Finn had a key role in the well-loved TV show The Middle.

American performer Pat Finn, who featured in iconic programs including "Friends", Seinfeld and The Middle, has passed away at 60 years old.

The comedic improv actor died at home in Los Angeles, California recently following treatment for cancer since 2022, per reports.

"He considered no one a stranger - solely future friends he hadn't encountered," his loved ones shared in a message.

They added that he had "embraced life completely - with joy and exuberance".

A Prolific Television Career

His debut TV appearance was on a show starring George Wendt in the mid-90s, where he appeared as the titular character's brother.

He was also seen in a recurring role on Murphy Brown from 1995 to 1997.

He appeared as Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in the late 90s, portraying a social organizer famous for delegating unpleasant chores to his guests.

In the 90s and 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on a variety of well-known programs, such as:

  • King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

Finn was perhaps best known for his portrayal of the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight seasons of the show from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits include "It's Complicated" and "Santa Paws 2".

A Life in Improv

Beyond his acting parts, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and served as an educator at the Colorado university, where he was a faculty member.

He was a member of a six-person improv troupe named Beer Shark Mice.

"Finn coached, befriended and mentored many learners during his career and it would be difficult to find a person anywhere who has a bad thing to say about him," his relatives stated.

In a tribute, colleague and actor actor Richard Kind remarked there was "nobody more kind, gentle, and humorous, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Consistently upbeat, assisting others to improve and be funnier. A wonderful father and man," Kind wrote online.

The actor is leaves behind his spouse Donna, three children, and his parents and siblings.
